600 Africans Travelling To The US By Boat Stranded In Costa Rica

Over 600 Africans are now stranded after crossing the Atlantic by boat to Brazil and then passing through Colombia and Panama before getting stuck in Costa Rica enroute to the United States. With more arriving every day – so far from seven countries on the continent – to the small border town of Paso Canoas, both the Red Cross and the government have warned it could turn into a crisis. The whole journey took the people four months. “It’s been bad, a lot of police in Colombia, Panama asking for money. Sunday Etukudoh, a 66-year-old man native of Nnung Ikot Abianga in Oruk Anam LGA OF Akwa Ibom State has allegedly defiled and impregnated a 13-year-old daughter of his cousin, Miss Ofonime Saturday Okon. Etukudoh exploited his blood relationship with the girl’s father and gradually gained access to the girl with the parent’s consent, under the guise of wanting to help with household chores. Ofonime, a JSS1 student of Southern Annang Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikot Okono, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, who was already four months pregnant as at the time the crime was exposed, claimed she was threatened with a kitchen knife in order to succumb to the illicit act. She, however, admitted to have continued honouring the man’s subsequent invitations without the consent of her parents. Two UBA Bank Managers At Palmgrove Branch In Lagos Jailed At Ikoyi & Kirikiri For Forging Customer’s Signature. 36-year-old Tammy Adoki and 39-year-old Augustina Ezenwekwe have been arrested for allegedly forging the signature of a customer. The suspects who are regional managers at Palmgrove Lagos branch of the United Bank for Africa allegedly conspired with others still at large to forge one Mrs Adeosun Oluwatoyin’s signature while planning to withdraw a huge sum of money from her account. They were picked up by FCID officials and arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’Court, Lagos on a three count charge of felony to wit, forgery. The presiding magistrate admitted them to bail in the sum of N1m each with two sureties each in like sum. The magistrate adjourned the case till 18 June, 2016 for mention while the defendants were taken to Ikoyi and Kirikiri prisons respectively pending when they will fulfill their bail conditions.

Restaurant Owner, Mother Disowns School Dropout Son Arrested For Using Toy Gun For Robbery In Lagos. A restaurant owner at Iyana-Iba area of Lagos has disowned her 16-year-old son, Ibeh, over robbery allegation. Police detectives in Lagos arrested Ibeh for being in possession of a toy gun.  The teenager, however, insisted that he was not a robber.The police accused Ibeh of using the toy gun to rob unsuspecting passengers in traffic at night at Iyana- Iba. Mohammed Aminu Tukur, a serving member of the NYSC was arrested at the Ecobank last week for allegedly stealing a Techno M6 mobile phone belonging to one of the cashiers at the bank. Though he initially denied stealing the phone, a thorough search carried out by the security officials on duty exposed him. Every customer was subjected to a search, but Tukur refused to be searched. He angrily told the security guards conducting the search not to search him. He said it was against his Muslim faith. All efforts made to search him, proved abortive as he resisted. A 32-year-old trader, Olajuwon Badmus, who allegedly inserted his finger into the vagina of an eight-year-old girl, was on Thursday arraigned in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The Magistrate, Mrs A.F Adeeyo, however, granted Badmus bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum. She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must have a letter of recommendation from a community or religious leader.  Adeeyo ordered that the case file should be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case till May 9. Badmus, who resides at Shomolu area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge bordering on child rape and sexual harassment. The accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges. A Third year medical student, Olaoluwa Oluwamuyiwa, (Dr Lulu) who is down with renal failure has appealed to Nigerians to help save his life. Born on February 16, 1988, 28-year old Oluwamuyiwa hails from Ondo State from a small family of four, comprising his parents, himself and his younger sister. Dr Lulu, as he is fondly called, began to experience difficulties in pursuit of his childhood dream to become a medical doctor in 2000 when his father lost his job. Shortly after, he had a ghastly accident that made him unconscious for several months. He has been unable to fully use his legs well till date. Undeterred by the challenge, Dr Lulu travelled to Ukraine to study medicine, but had to abandon the study owing to financial difficulty. He came back to Nigeria. But refusing to give up on his dream, he went to China after some years to study medicine again. He is currently in his third year. No more arms for drunk policemen

No avoid the killing of people through accidental discharges, policemen, who abuse alcohol and drugs, will no longer be given arms.The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Bala Hassan, made this known yesterday at the Police College, Ikeja, during the launch of medical kits for urine drug test, and mass screening for hypertension and diabetes. He said such officers would be rehabilitated before entrusting them with the duty of protecting lives and properties. “These officers and men need to be very healthy, fit and safe in order to be able to carry out these statutory duties,” he said. Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of Medical Dr Modupe Obembe said every police officer was expected to be physically, mentally, emotionally and socially fit. Dr Obembe warned policemen to avoid self medication; to be faithful to their partners and avoid unprotected sex; have regular exercise, among others.

A 60-year-old woman, Asabi Adebayo, has been arrested by the police in Oyo State for allegedly buying five babies at N5million from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. The suspect, who planned to fly the babies abroad for sale, was said to have brought them to an orphanage in Ibadan to obtain a certified police report for them when the bubble burst. Commissioner of Police Leye Oyebade, who paraded the suspect and the babies yesterday at the Eleyele Police Headquarters, said the woman would have escaped if not for the patriotic behavior of the officials of the orphanage, who reported the matter at the Iyaganku Police Station. The suspect, who said she hailed from Lagos State, is also a British citizen. The ages of the babies, (two boys and three girls) range from two years, eight months, seven months, six months and four months. A civil servant, Oyeniyi Adenike, has called for investigation into the death of her two-year-old daughter, Rachael in the Egbeda area of Lagos State. It was learnt that the victim was living with her mother in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where she was attending kindergarten. The father, Gbenga, was said to have taken her to his Lagos residence on Jezza Street, in the Egbeda area on Monday. The child was reported to be playing with other children in the neighbourhood when she fell and drowned in an 80-foot well in the house around 5pm same Monday. Her mother, Adenike, however, told PUNCH Metro that circumstances surrounding the death of the child made it difficult for her to believe that the drowning was an accident. She said her issue with her husband of four years started after she insisted that Racheal should begin her education in Abeokuta. The hugely popular and acclaimed musician Prince has died at his home in Minnesota at the age of 57, his publicist has said. Police were called to a medical emergency at his Paisley Park estate earlier on Thursday, US media reported. An investigation is underway. Prince became a global superstar in the 1980s, with albums such as 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times. He sold more than 100 million records during his career. A singer, songwriter, arranger and multi instrumentalist, Prince recorded more than 30 albums. His best known hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry. In 2004, Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame. Last week he was rushed to hospital hours after performing on stage, but was soon released.

He was trailed from his office in Ken Poly and killed by political thugs while driving in Yeghe, Rivers state on Thursday. The man from Nukpor Village, Bua-Yeghe, Gokana Local Government Area, had reportedly petitioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in the state about threat to his life by an alleged notorious politician before he was murdered gruesomely in his car alongside a female student whom he gave a lift (pictured below). Court jails 70-year-old chief for raping pupils

An Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has sentenced a septuagenarian, Chief Moses Adeniyi, to seven years’ imprisonment for raping two teenage pupils. The judgment is contained in a statement issued by the Information Officer of the Osun State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Opeyemi Bello, in Osogbo on thursday. Adeniyi, who is the Loja, Araromi Otokobo, was arraigned in court on March 28, 2011, and charged with rape and indecent assault. The prosecution team from the Ministry of Justice comprising Tijani Adekilekun and Folasade Adekomi told the court that the convict offered a free ride to the girls, who were coming back from the school, and he drove them to his hotel where he raped them. The team told the court that the two offences were contrary to the provisions of sections 358 and 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, vol.11, Law of Osun State.
