BREAKING: Government building collapses in Ogun.

Four of the workers had so far been retrieved by rescue workers from under the rubbles of the four-storey building. BREAKING: We won’t hold South-West congress, says PDP

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has said that it would not hold the South-West zonal congress of the party originally scheduled for Saturday. The party said that it was recalling its officers already sent to Akure, the Ondo State capital, where the congress was originally scheduled to   National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, stated this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday. Oladipo said the decision to stop the congress was because of the order by Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos, which restrained the party from going ahead with its zonal congress. Apart from Akure, another faction of the party had planned to hold a separate zonal congress in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State. Boko Haram on Thursday claimed a suicide bomb attack that killed two police officers in northeast Nigeria, just days before a regional security summit on efforts to eradicate the Islamists. The group, using the name Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), said in a statement posted on social media that the bomber “was able to detonate his explosive vest in the area of Maiduguri”. The group said the attack was carried out by Abu Anas al-Ansari. It claimed “at least 15 apostates (non-believers)” were killed in the attack, which happened at about 12:00 pm (1100 GMT) at the Borno State Secretariat in the city.  A real drama unfolded on Tuesday at Kipkorgot Estate on the outskirts of Eldoret after five secondary school students were allegedly caught having group s*x. The four boys and a girl from different schools in Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, Kenya are reported to have been living together since schools opened for second term. Subsidy removal yesterday worked like magic in Lagos as long queues disappeared at petrol filling stations. At filling stations in Ikeja, Mushin and Ikorodu Road, among others, petrol was being sold. Some known for “good metering” had queues of about five to 10 vehicles. Others were empty and motorists drove in and out freely. Some filling stations were not selling because, the attendants said, they have no fuel. But Commercial buses and taxis have increased their fares. For instance, buses that ply Eko Hotel to Ojuelegba collect N250 as against N150. Ojuelegba to Ikeja is now N250 as against N150. Mowe/Ibafo to Oshodi, which was N200, has gone up to N250. Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives yesterday searched former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode’s Abuja home. The ex-Minister is in custody in connection with the N2.5billion illegally withdrawn from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and paid into the accounts of six chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Goodluck Support Group (GSG). Fani-Kayode allegedly got about N840million from the funds which were pumped into the 2015 presidential campaign. The search was said to have followed intelligence reports on some of the issues emerging from the grilling of the ex-minister. Although there was no official statement from the EFCC, a source said: “Such a search is routine in the course of conducting this type of investigation.” A statement by Jude Ndukwe, the Special Assistant on Media to the ex-Minister, said the search was conducted without any warrant. Pathologists at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on Thursday conducted autopsy on the remains of Ronke Shonde, 36, but declined to make the result public. Fuel hike: Commercial drivers withdraw vehicles from Osun roads

Intra city commercial  bus drivers in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Thursday withdrew their vehicles from the road to protest the increase in the price of petrol to N145 per litre. Our correspondent observed  that commuters resorted to trekking long distance as the drivers parked their mini buses known as ‘korope’  at various motor parks to protest the fuel hike which many of them described as wicked. One of the drivers, who spoke in an interview with our correspondent, Tajudeen Mustapha said commuters were not willing to pay commensurate increase in the fare. Mustapha said, “This hike is wicked. The people are suffering already even before the hike. Two persons were killed and 19 others injured in a suicide bomb attack at Borno State Secretariat, Maiduguri, on Thursday. According to a security personnel at the gate of the secretariat, who did not want his name mentioned, said the incident occurred at about 12pm. He said the suicide bomber pretended to be one of the workers of the Borno State Government who was there as part of those carrying out staff verification. He added that the suicide bomber had a file on him to show to the security officers at the gate to the Secretariat that he was a staff. The Nigeria Police have arrested six men for allegedly engaging in acts of homosexuality in different areas within Benin, the Edo State capital. The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5, AIG Musa Daura, who paraded the suspects on Thursday, said that they were arrested on May 9, 2016, by operatives of the zonal anti-vice section. Daura listed the suspects to include Festus Osagiede (24), Hyacinth Imahanrebhor (20), Itama Omon (25), Onwukwe Prince (28), Monye Chukwuma (23) and Osadebe Kelvin‎ (26), adding they confessed to have been committing the crime since 2006. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a ‘doctor’, identified only as Abiodun, for allegedly raping and impregnating a 26-year-old ulcer patient in the Ipaja Ayobo area of the state. PUNCH Metro learnt that Abiodun, a trado-medical doctor, who had his health centre – Damola Healthcare – on Agbaje Street, was arrested on Tuesday by the Isokoko Police Division. The Family Support Unit of the division was said to be in charge of the matter. Our correspondent gathered that the victim, Funmilayo (pseudonym), who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, and lives two streets away from the centre, had in December 2015, gone to the place to complain about ulcer. It was learnt that Abiodun’s workers had prescribed some herbal drugs for the lady, telling her that she would pay N18,000 for comprehensive treatment. The victim reportedly deposited N10,000. 72-year-old woman gives birth to baby boy

A seventy-two-year old Daljinder Kaur delivered a healthy baby boy after 46 years marriage and about 20 years after menopause. Kaur’s wish to have a child was fulfilled through the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF-test tube) technique, wherein the eggs and sperm are fertilised outside the womb, in a test tube. Kaur’s 79-year-old husband, Mohinder Singh Gill, had been travelling with her from Amritsar in Punjab to Hisar in Haryana since 2013 to ensure the success of the treatment, according to Hindustantimes. In July 2015, Kaur finally conceived after two failed IVF cycles. Embryologist and owner of the National Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre in Hisar, Dr Anurag Bishnoi, explained that Kaur first came to him alone in 2013, after reading about the centre in newspapers.
